Disposable

Some people think you always gotta do
What it says on the box.
Some people think you always gotta do
What other people do.
But don't take it back, don't take it back, don't take it back.
Don't take your disposable camera back.
Some people think you always gotta do
What the experts say.
Some people think you always gotta do
What you tell them to do.
So open up the back, open up the back, open up the back.
Open your disposable camera up.
You don't need a darkroom to take out the film
Cause it winds from the take-up spool into the cartridge.
All you gotta do is reach in and take it.
Put in a new one in and wind back to the start, back to the ...
Some people think you always gotta do
What it says on the box.
Some people think you always gotta do
What other people do.
But don't take it back, don't take it back, don't take it back.
Don't take your disposable camera back.

Hoga Jen

Black and white rabbit skin hat.
A framed coffee cup, just like that.
Lying on a bed she dreams Of Nosferatu
M and Un Chien Andalou.
Tall dead pines impale the sky.
An alligator glimpsed as it passes by.
Lying in the shower dreaming of a time
When thoughts were harder to define.
Medium format mind.
Medium format mother.
Oh Holga Jen
Who is this?
Who you feel you know?
What happened
At the silo in the snow?
Medium format mind
Medium format mother
Misplaced eyes in self regard,
She confronts herself like a Tarot card.
From time to time she poses with her tool,
Holga Jen so effortlessly cool.

Study myself in the glass,
Reflecting on my distant past.
The pits and craters on my face
Remind me of my trip to space.
I think we had a real blast
But the past stays firmly in the past.
No self-portraits anymore.
Nothing to remember what I saw.
I left my camera on the moon.
Didn’t know we were going home so soon.
Thought we’d be back before we knew
But that was 1972.
Looked down at the sky
Then the moon hit my eyes
And I saw we’d arrived
And it was so cold and so beautiful.
Took a few snapshots of my feet.
It’s a cliche but the background was really neat.
And I can’t help be a little sad.
It’s the only Hasselblad I ever had.
I left my camera on the moon.
Didn’t know we were going home so soon.
Thought we’d be back before we knew
But that was 1972.

Cold Star

Why does it seem
Like falling in love is an impossible thing?
Like a falling star
That flickers briefly with an impossible light?
And if we could understand it
We’d have worked out a cure by now.
We’d have worked something out somehow.
An impossible thing
The reaction that consumes every part of you.
Even though you try
To radiate everything that you have left.
And if we could understand it
We’d have worked out a cure by now.
We’d have worked something out somehow.
Read a thousand books
to reach this state of perfect ignorance
And say it must feel as if energy
is like a distant memory.
Why does it feel
Like being in love is an impossible thing?
And if we could understand it
We’d have worked out a cure by now.
We’d have worked something out somehow.
We’d have worked something out somehow.
